Even though mowing the lawn in the summertime is hot work, you don’t want to do it too early. If you mow the lawn first thing in the morning, it will still be wet from dew. You should always avoid mowing wet grass, whether from dew or from rain, because wet grass lies flat, and the mower blades won’t hit it right. Wet grass is also harder to mulch, and the wheels of your mower will leave grooves in the lawn. To ensure the grass is dry, you should wait 4 to 5 hours after sunrise to start mowing.
Best Season
You probably already know that you should mow your in the spring, summer, and fall, but how often you should mow during these seasons is important. In March, depending on the weather, you’ll want to mow the grass once or twice. Obviously, if it’s very cold or there’s still snow on the ground, you should wait until it warms up. Either way, mowing once or twice in the early spring will help liven up your yard after the winter as you de-thatch and clean up your yard.
Late spring through early summer (roughly April through June) is prime growing season, so you should mow at least once a week, more often if the grass grows quickly. By July, the weather is hot enough that you don’t want to mow too often; once a week is plenty. That’s what you’ll want to do through September and then a couple more times in October until you stop for the winter.
