The summer months are a popular time for landscaping because the weather is warm and dry, and people are thinking about their backyards. We’re spending more time outdoors, thinking about all the features it would be nice to have. In New England, the time we have to enjoy our yards and relax outside can be pretty short, so you want to make the most of it. As a Wellesley landscaper, our team at Cataldo Landscape & Masonry can help you have the backyard of your dreams with some simple summer landscaping projects.
Here are three suggestions for landscaping projects that you can take on this summer.
Add a Path or Patio
Very few people want their yard to be an uninterrupted expanse of grass. That would be visually boring and hard to take care of. Breaking up a green space with a path or walkway adds some visual interest to your yard and gives guests a clear path across your property. Adding a patio also helps to break up the green space and gives you a nice level place to put furniture and sit while you enjoy the weather.
Edge Gardens and Walkways
If you’ve already broken up your expanse of grass with a walkway or a garden, it’s also nice to visually separate them from your lawn. Adding edging to gardens helps to contain the soil or mulch while creating a clear distinction between the flower bed or vegetable garden and the rest of your lawn. Walkways also benefit from visual boundaries. If you think stone edging is too stark, line the walkway with plants for a softer look with more colors and textures.
Build a Retaining Wall
In New England, most properties are not completely flat. Hills and inclines are part of your property’s charm, but flooding or erosion can be a problem. Building a retaining wall adds a pleasing visual element to your yard and protects your property from these issues. They also make great foundations for raised beds if you want to add more plants to your yard.
