There’s nothing like cooking with fresh herbs. While you can find them at the grocery store or farmer’s market this time of year, it’s even better to have them in your own backyard. Many people build a stone wall around the edge of their patio, so it’s easy to turn a portion into a long planter. Add a few feet of depth to the wall to turn it into a herb garden right on your patio.
Build a Fire Pit
Everyone loves gathering around the fire on a summer or fall evening. You can build an elaborate outdoor fireplace or a simple fire pit. Either way, you’ll love having a place to gather around with your friends and family to roast marshmallows or have a chat over some drinks.
Incorporate Outdoor Food Prep
A patio is the perfect place to keep your grill, but that’s not all you can do on a patio when it comes to prepping and cooking your food outside. Bring the kitchen outside with an outdoor bar, some counter space, or even a pizza oven! You don’t have to go back inside to prepare any part of your meal by turning your patio into an outdoor kitchen.
Make Bold Color Choices
Patios are usually neutral colors, the most common being grays and sandy browns. There’s nothing wrong with sticking with the traditional colors, but there’s something to be said for bold colors, too. Use brick red for an accent, or do the same with very dark or very light colors. Get creative with patterns to make your patio visually interesting and stand out from the rest of your yard.
